  Who's Who
o
Basil Sparks: Senior Pastor

You may ask; ‘How would a bald headed used to be engineer ever end up as a pastor?’ What a contradiction! Three words answer that. God…and…people. He (God that is) saved me, called me, leads me and empowers me to serve Him amongst people. All kinds of people! Those that love Him and those who have yet to discover the indescribable beauty and magnificence of a personal God. A saving, restoring God.
He is what I am about. He is what we are about. You may have noticed
that, as a Church, we wish to demonstrate the relevance of JESUS CHRIST in today’s society. We live to show Jesus to a bust up world and we hope to see that happening through the local Church.

No, I’m not single! Married, kids, white picket fence all form part of the picture. Kidding! Heidi and I have been married since 1991. Wonderful and blessed years of love and friendship! Christopher made his bold entry to planet earth in 1995 and Kaitlyn arrived in 1998. You do the maths.

I hate my work. Sorry, ‘absolutely love’ were the words I was looking for. I couldn’t ask for more. Further, we have an incredible team. Not only full time staff but volunteers who would give their lives for the joy of serving Christ! I do hope that you would join us and find out more about this community.

Mike Witney: Assistant Pastor

God has given me a passion for people that are hurting. Therefore, I find myself most comfortable counseling broken and wounded people, visiting those who are ill and those who need to be encouraged.

My dream for the Church resonates with Rick Warren from Saddleback – ‘May our Church be a place where the hurting, the hopeless, the discouraged, the depressed, the frustrated and confused can find love,
acceptance, guidance and encouragement.’

I use a narrative approach in my counseling ministry which centres people as the experts in their own lives and views problems as separate from people. Narrative therapy assumes that people have many skills, competencies, beliefs, values, commitments and abilities that will assist them to reduce the influence of problems in their lives. The word 'narrative' refers to the emphasis that is placed on the stories of people's lives and the differences that can be made through particular tellings and retellings of these stories.

I am married to Judie who also has a passion for people who are hurting. Judie assists me in my ministry. I am truly blessed with three daughters; Di-gina, Tarryn and Kirsten along with three grand-daughters; Linda, Natasha and Juliana.

A verse that encourages and inspires me daily in my ministry is; “The Spirit of the LORD is upon me, because He has anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed” (Luke 4:18).

Bradley Anderson: Children's Pastor

Not many adults today can say that they love spending time with children – but I do. When it comes to ministry I have two great passions: Teaching God’s Word in a relevant dynamic way and being with children. ‘Why?’ you may ask. Well there are a couple of reasons. Firstly, although my outward appearance has matured, many have said on the inside I have never grown up – I am child at heart and I am energised when I am around kids. Secondly, in the Bible I see the
incredible value of children, and I remember the words of Christ, telling us to be like children in their innocence, their simplicity of faith and their desire to please God. I want to invest in them and learn from them. Finally, I am convinced that this is a passion and calling which God has placed in my heart for this time, He has given me a heart for children and I love serving Him in this way.

My ministry includes Friday night children’s youth groups, teaching in schools, leading assemblies, Kicks (Sunday School), children’s cell groups and ministry events (Holiday clubs and camps). Beyond that I am also privileged to preach in the evening services at the church.

Craig Wilcock : Youth Pastor

I am a twenty something year old youth pastor with a serious desire to see young people mature in their faith so that they can make an impact on those around them. The world that we live in does not provide a healthy environment for teenagers and many are left broken and hurting. The Church’s response to this is very important and it is a wonderful privilege to head up ministry at DBC that seeks to provide a safe place for young adults and teenagers.

o
I enjoy the outdoors, playing touch rugby and DOTA. I am die hard Sharks supporter and generally a really fun guy. My prayer is that we would all come to a place where we are in love with Jesus and have a passion for the Lost.

Nolene Dollery: Secretary

Like most secretaries it is not the easiest task to describe what I do and what my typical day holds. From answering phone calls & welcoming visitors, too much needed cups of coffee or tea for the hardworking, thirsty staff.

At DBC we have a Senior Pastor, Assistant Pastor, Youth Pastor and Children’s Pastor and it is my role to assist them, mostly administratively
speaking, in their ministries and functions. I have been told that I havea memory like that of an elephant. This comes in handy when keeping track of all the goings on here. Most of the general church administration comes past my desk, as well as account payments and general bookkeeping.

There are many aspects and dynamics involved in my daily functions, too many to list here (and I wouldn’t want to bore you). I thoroughly enjoy everything that I do here at DBC but there are many highlights throughout the year that always create special memories for me. A few of these are our annual Holiday Bible Club, July Joy and Church Family Camp. I see what I do, big or small, as my way of serving God amongst his people and I am blessed daily as a result.
