Life Groups
Contact the Church office at dbcoffice@durbanvillebaptist.co.za
Life Groups are an environment where people focus on becoming a Biblically functioning community. The aim of these groups are for the people involved to become fully devoted followers of His. This is accomplished through Bible study, prayer, friendship and accountability. Life Groups are small groups of people (usually between 4 and 12) who meet together on a regularly basis (usually in homes) to share life together.
Youth
Contact Craig at craig@durbanvillebaptist.co.za
Do you sometimes look at yourself and say: “Self, there has got to be more to life than this!” Then maybe it's time you join the Youth at Durbanville Baptist Church!
What type of stuff you can you get involved with?
-
Pulse - Every Friday night at 8pm you can come and live out your craziness with other crazy youth. Pulse is a place where you can be yourself, have fun and learn more about our great big Dad in heaven!
-
Teen cells – Throughout the week we have various teen cell groups. Here you will be able to share in the lives of your fellow Christ-following friends and also dig a little deeper into the Bible.
-
Teen church – Every second Sunday morning we leave all the old people upstairs and go to the youth room for a more informal church service. We look at various topics (e.g. prayer, the Bible, church) and you finally get a chance to ask all those difficult questions.
-
Youth Band – The youth has their own band that worships God in their own loud, energetic, honest way.
-
Holiday Bible Club – This is a HUGE event every July holiday where you as a teenager can get involved as a leader. Don't miss this one!
-
Ministries – There are many, many, many (as in stack loads of) other ministries where you can get involved. For example
-
- CZAM,
- STORM,
- being a leader for the small kids at Club-JAM, Real Deal and KiCKs,
- and many, many, many more.
We aim to help you into a personal relationship with Jesus. And after that we want to help you grow that relationship. Because if Romans 8:6 is anything to go by, then nothing else comes close to the amazing life Jesus has planned for you!
Children’s Ministry
Contact Brad at brad@durbanvillebaptist.co.za
Think back to your childhood experience of church and choose three words to describe it? For far to many people words like ‘boring’, ‘irrelevant’, or ‘uninspiring’ come to mind. At Durbanville Baptist we are not satisfied with that – the children’s ministry at the church is constantly striving to be exciting and life changing as we dynamically present God’s Word to the children in various settings.
We have the CRAZY fun-filled Friday nights, where we have a blast and then present a creative lesson to the children. There are two groups - Club Jam (Grades 0-5) which is high energy program of games and singing, and Real Deal (Grades 6-7), which is a more relaxed social vibe focusing on the importance of relationships. {both groups run from 6-7:30pm every Friday night during the term.
Then there is the EXCITING Sunday morning program, KiCK’s. This is church with a real twist – lots of funky songs, interactive games and most importantly a child-friendly, child-centred presentation of God’s Word. We want to teach the Bible the way the children enjoy to be taught. After the lesson we break into age appropriate groups to apply the Bible specifically to the lives of the kids.
On top of these weekly ministries we have a few annual highlights on the children’s ministry calendar:
- The AWESOME holiday club runs every year in the July school holidays and revolves around a theme each year. The hall is completely transformed, and the children are treated to a week of rocking music, hilarious drama, exciting games, creative lessons and much more. And it has often been said that the leaders have just as much fun as the kids.
- Then the TREMENDOUS Real Deal Camp comes around every year somewhere between September and November. A bunch of ‘almost teenagers’ head out of town with a some more mature ‘children’ to brave a weekend of non-stop action, meaningful spiritual input and the best camp food you have ever taste
You don’t believe childrens’ ministry can be this exciting? Why not come and see for yourself. Or if you want to be a part of this crazy team of passionate leaders then get hold of Brad through the church office or email him at brad@durbanvillebaptist.co.za

Worship Ministry/Department
Contact Ronnie Schmitz at ronnie@biamic.co.za
We are called, throughout Scripture, to worship God. The worship of God includes all aspects of our lives including our care for those that are dependant. The use of music to publicly ascribe to God our worship of Him as well as encouragement to one another of God’s involvement in our lives is also evident and prevalent. A careful study of the Bible also indicates that this is not to be done in a haphazard manner, but that people were appointed as musicians and singers in worship to God. Consequently, it is important that we work diligently at developing the ministry to achieve its objective which is to facilitate an opportunity to reflect on God and His activities and attributes through songs of praise and worship and to be reminded of what God is doing in our lives and this world. This is to be accomplished in accordance with the mission statement of the church – “to demonstrate the relevance of Jesus Christ in today’s society”. This does imply being contemporary without compromising on doctrine.
The commitment required for people participating in the ministry is fourfold:
- A commitment to the development of their own individual relationship with Jesus
- A commit to regular personal practice to improve personal musical skills (and lessons if possible)
- A commitment to team practice once a week and to playing every fortnight
- A commitment to each other in the ministry team to grow in our love and care for each other (through prayer and personal involvement)
Areas in which involvement is sought include:
- Singing – leading and backing vocals
- Instrument
- Technical – sound engineering, visual operations, service recording, other.
- Support – prayer, assistance in setup and breakdown
- Music and song administration
If you believe that you have talents and abilities in these areas that you would like to use please contact the deacon responsible for the worship ministry for further information
